Lowest Rated-Input Portable Air Conditioners UK

Rated input provides a comparable upper-use scenario. Actual consumption changes as compressors cycle, so this page never promises a fixed bill saving.

THE SHORT ANSWER

Match the room before choosing the first model.

Match capacity first, then compare verified rated watts with one tariff and usage assumption. The lowest wattage is not automatically cheapest in practice if the unit is undersized and must run longer.

How this ranking works

Ordered by verified rated input watts, then cooling output per rated watt. The hourly illustration uses 25p/kWh and should be replaced with your own tariff in the calculator.

Last reviewed 1 September 2026. Commercial relationships do not change the order.

USE THE LIST SAFELY

Decision rules before following the ranking

A specification order is useful only after the product type and capacity match the room. Apply these checks to every model, including the first one shown.

  1. Compare exact rated input, not a broad energy-class slogan.
  2. Use the same tariff, hours and duty-cycle assumption for every model.
  3. Reject low input when the product is undersized for the room.
  4. Keep purchase, accessories and installation separate from energy-only cost.

ROOM-BY-ROOM JUDGEMENT

How the shortlist changes with the situation

The same model can be a sensible fit in one room and a poor fit in another. Use these scenarios to decide which evidence to collect next.

Maximum-input comparison

Rated watts multiplied by your tariff gives a transparent cost-per-hour ceiling while the compressor is drawing that input. It does not mean the unit consumes the same amount every hour. Compare models on the same basis and label the result as a scenario rather than a bill forecast.

Cycling and real rooms

Consumption can fall when the compressor cycles, but duty cycle depends on room load, set point, outdoor conditions, sealing and capacity. Do not assume an arbitrary low percentage to manufacture savings. Test a cautious range and keep the rated-input result visible beside it.

Value over more than one summer

A lower energy scenario may not recover a large purchase-price difference during occasional use. Combine the energy calculation with delivery, window accessories and expected ownership years. Warranty terms and service support matter, but CoolCompare does not convert them into an unsupported reliability claim.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Questions about this comparison

Does the lowest wattage always mean the lowest bill?

Not necessarily. An undersized unit may run for longer and fail to reach comfort. Match capacity first, then compare rated input under one usage scenario.

Why does the page use 25p/kWh?

It is an editable illustration, not a live national tariff. Use the running-cost calculator with the rate on your bill or tariff document.

Match the room before choosing a rank

A shortlist position cannot tell you whether a product fits your room, window or tolerance for compressor noise.
