How the desk works

Evidence before reassurance.

Product safety needs precise identification, current official evidence and careful language.

01

Exact identity

Use brand, model number and product identifiers from the rating label—not the marketing name alone.

02

Official evidence

Notices must trace to an official authority or manufacturer action before publication.

03

Clear limitations

No match means no reviewed match in our records. It never proves a product is safe.

IF YOU FIND A MATCH

Stop, read the official action and identify the exact unit.

Do not improvise a repair. Follow the notice and contact the named manufacturer or retailer where instructed.

WHEN THERE IS NO MATCH

Keep checking the exact identity and official source

A search result covers only the reviewed notices in the CoolCompare dataset. Product safety action must be based on the exact model, serial or batch range in the official notice.

Read the rating label

Use the model number and other identifiers on the physical unit, packaging or purchase record. A family name, retailer title or similar casing is not enough to decide that a notice applies.

Open the primary notice

Confirm the affected identity, dates, hazard and action on the official regulator or manufacturer page. Follow that instruction rather than a summary, cached snippet or improvised repair.

Preserve evidence

Record the label, serial where relevant, seller and purchase evidence before contacting the named organisation. Do not continue using a product where the official action says to stop.

Limit: No match is never a safety clearance. The dataset may be incomplete or awaiting review, and product condition, installation or damage can create risks unrelated to a published recall.
